Google's development process...why is it so fast?

We all know the stories about Google products that go from an idea to a beta in 6 weeks. But, how do they manage their larger initiatives (i.e. Android, Open Social)? Do they use a traditional product development process in terms of assigning resources, etc.?

If we were able to know these we were running google but not only talking about it. Google is something that only google understand.

We are talking about Google and we also know that Google is 10 yr old, and they have the best of the best people, a fortune company.
