Friendfeed, Twitter

Have been playing around with Flock (social networking browser) and hence to friendfeed and twitter.

Am I missing something - are they used for networking / marketing. Have been following Ed Dale's ThirtyDayChallenge but cannot see the marketing aspect.

I use them - For me their for having fun, and a bit of subtle website promotion not VISIT MY SITE every five mintues like I've seen some people do! (who are promptly removed from my contact lists!)
