Forum registering but no posting

Hi all

Why is it that so many people register on forums, fill in their profile including website address and then never post a single post. Why? Does this count as a backlink?

These kind of people get their website address removed anyway but I bet it is a headache for some forum administrators.

GKD,
This is a problem for most forum owners, its a form of spamming, most forum give you a back link just for registering, filling in your profile including your website url.
The best think is to regularly blacklist email addresses this people uses and delete their address.

You can find a list of popular email address some of this bastards at shame a spammer thread
You are welcomed to add list of email from offending people from your forum to the list.

Spammers or not, most users on forums register to get full access to the forum but just lurk around and never post.
Lurkers aren't bad but they keep the forum down. If every lurker posted at least 50 posts all the forums on the net would triple their post count if not even more.

I think Around 20 good posts is enough for a member and they link can remain up.

Unless they are like me and get addicted to a forum. I have never posted this amount of posts on any forum :)

But I have learnt quite a bit though.

I think we are all guilty of lurking. I do it everyday, i think of it as surfing for information. People might be shy or have difficulty relating to the posters. But find the information useful nonetheless...

I have noticed a new member has registered on this forum called freeringtonesss

This person is a big spammer :armada35:

I think after Bagi set up his forum etc, we should exchange info about this spammer to fight them effectively.

Some people register without posting just to be part of some private forums , the forums only registered member can acces. Some people don`t post because their understanding of english is okay , but they can`t write as well as they read. And some join just for the link :D Well at first I banned few of these users , now I started replacing their links in the profile with url of some of the sites I work on. Next , I think I will start banning again the members that do not post.

And with all this things with the spammers , I also got members who join but have no link in signature or profile , but still have no posts...

That's a great idea, the best thing to do is to replace the url. At least each person who joins but does not post counts as an extra member. :D
