does email marketing really works?

I'm new to affiliate marketing and just taking my first steps in the business...
i have read a lot of affiliate blogs and posts about email marketing and they all kept repeating the mantra: "the money is in the list". the reason i ask this is that i find it hard to grasp that email marketing really works: i myself subscribed to many email lists but never actually really bought anything via these emails and always i found myself unsubscribe from these lists after a while...

so...are there affiliates here that are making money with email marketing? does it really works?

It only works if it is done correctly.

If all you do is send promotional emails to your lest then, no, it will not work.

If you send them real good information and how-to's designed to help in whatever niche you are in the you could see great rewards.
