Did you switch to Vista?

It has been a year since Microsoft has released it's latest OS version Windows Vista. Even though it supposed to be much more advanced that Windows XP I am very cautious to any new software.

It took me about 3 years after initial XP release to switch from Windows 2000...

Just wondering how many PC users switched to Vista and what they have to say compared to Windows XP?

I bought a new flying machine Dell, and opted for Vista over Xp. Have to admit it is a geat OS, but a PITA when it comes to security. EVERYTHING you do is questioned with are you sure, It has Digital Copyright on just about everything and will not allow me to play some DVD's on it (what is the point of a 22" widescreen monitor then.

I rip MP'3's but it will not allow me to burn them to CD etc

So it CAN be a royal pain in the ass, but generally it is good.

I am using Vista, as it comes in packaged with my laptop too.

Unfortunately, I am not a technical guy, so I won't really know the difference much?!?

As long as it wont "hang," I have no problems about it.

I have XP on my desktop. The Mrs bought me an acer laptop in the local PC shop and it came with Vista preinstalled. BUT the laptop only has 512Mb of ram and is slow as hell i always read that Vista required 512Mb just to operate itself. So this has left me unable to judge the true performance.

The constant request for confirmation to do anything at all is a pain in the ass though. And the way it deals with the Ctrl + Alt + Del method taking you out to a page asking do you want to shutdown etc is annoying too.

I'm still using XP

I may give Vista another test when the first service pack is released but for now XP does a great job.

Recently my pc won't bear with the resource claim of Vista. I remember that about 2 years ago my pc was almost a super machine and now...

I'd say if you had the money to buy:
  • 4GHz CPU
  • 4GB (or MORE) RAM
Then go with Vista.

BUT: I still don't like the GUI though. I hate using my wife's Vista PC, or my daughters
Vista laptop :(

it lasted 6 hours before it bsod'd and I switched back to xp.

It was the business edition and thank god I didn't buy it! (I got it legally thought msdn though)

Not me but my son has purchased a new PC which should be here by Saturday hopefully. Got it from PC Specialist so it is a customized one.

So this machine will have Vista with it although I'm not too optimistic about Vista myself from what I have heard so lucky I won't be using it.

He mainly uses his PC to play WOW so he should be alright.

I'll stick with my nice Windows Media Center Edition.

i consider vista its more advanced and well built it may have minor disadvantages such as slowing the computer sometimes otherwise its great i love using it
