This is a brilliant story about how to create a buzz, turn it into a super SUPER affiliate success story, earn $900,000+ along the way and then give it all away.
Cyber Monday is the online equivalent of Black Friday and happens next Monday, November 30th. The term was coined by Shop.org during Holiday season 2005. The Cyber Monday phenomenon took off creating lots of buzz, that built up that day as the biggest online shopping day of the Holiday season - in spite of the fact that Green Monday, the 2nd Monday in December, typically beats Cyber Monday in sales.
In 2007 Shop.org brilliantly launched CyberMonday.com, a site that is a super SUPER affiliate featuring over 658 leading etailers. CyberMonday had 2.4 million unique visitors on Cyber Monday alone last year and generated over $12 million during the 2008 Holiday season. Talk about taking an idea and building it up into a huge successful affiliate venture!
Yes CyberMonday.com is an affiliate. A requirement of being listed on the site is that merchants must have an affiliate program on Linkshare, Commission Junction or the Google Affiliate Network. Check out the site for some good ideas. I'm not much of a deal hunter online, but the site is compelling! I found myself compulsively deal hunting, as I did research for this story. ;-)
What does CyberMonday.com do with all their hard earned cash? They give it away!
"We’re excited that CyberMonday.com has become a major holiday shopping destination, but we’re particularly proud that all of our proceeds from the site go directly to the Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Fund. Since launching in 2007, CyberMonday.com has brought in more than $900,000 for the Fund, which provides financial assistance to students pursuing careers in retail and e-commerce."
