.co.uk or .com best for SEO ranking for a UK website?

Hi, I’m no stranger to IT with 25 yrs experience as a Certified Software Engineer but am new to SEO.

I live in the UK and am planning to set up an affiliate niche site aimed at a UK audience.

Obviously SEO has many facets and twists and turns. However in order to maximise my chances of a good ranking for my site am I better off registering a .co.uk domain or a .com domain?

Yeah, it's going to have to be .co.uk but you can target .com to UK traffic depending on what your doing..

If we want to target only country or region specific users i.e. UK in this case then preferred domain is .CO.UK and if the site targets global audience then .COM version is preferred.

Both - .com and .co.uk are good for UK market. Bare in mind that .co.uk is associated only with UK and if you decide to expand your website later on ( lets say on US market) , the UK domain will not work. So thats why .com domain is always the best choice.
