industry --> home improvement
I think that may work out well in the US.
Predictions are for a mild recession and slow home buying market for the reason of affordability (higher mortgage rates mainly).
Typically, when this occurs; people need to maintain and repair homes they own --also improve rather than move.

Home Depot and Lowes are the major 'big box' retailers of home improvement merchandise.
Anderson Windows and Pella are nation wide window manufactures.
Solar energy is a moving target these days for the reason of changes in the net-metering excess electric buy-back rates --this will vary state by state.
The are energy efficiency product tax credits available in the US for 2023;
rebates provide up to:
  • $1,750 for a heat pump water heater;
  • $8,000 for an HVAC heat pump;
  • $840 for an electric (including induction) cooktop, stove, range, oven, or heat pump clothes dryer;
  • $1,600 for air sealing, insulation and ventilation;
  • $2,500 for electric wiring;
  • $4,000 for an electric load center upgrade.
There is a $14,000 maximum benefit per home, plus an additional $500 for qualified contractor incentives.

There is the WHY part ;)

in super competitive market

I like super competition, and that does not necessarily mean there are lots of players. It just means the players in it are very good and very competitive. When you have competitors that are very good, that means you only need to replicate what they do, but with your fingerprint on it and not theirs.

I don't think you will find coupons --home improvement is not a commodity item like a pair of pants or a meal out.
using google trends and social media to find hot new products
need to create landing pages for those products
customer will search google for product
probably find the brand 1st
then search again for coupon codes
before making their purchase
cta will be the coupon offer button
on my landing pages
if i throw out the hooks with bait
sure to catch some curious fishies
pillar content for blog will be
calendar of home renovation shows by state
but topic is very broad
need to read up this weekend

See if there are any Lumber yard affiliate programs.

I don't see any but there is a lot of leads on content ideas. Sort of 'old school.' what's an internet d'Oh ...

Masonry and roofing supply are big tickets too.

Tools is good also. ebay sells a lot on new and refurbished tools too --ebay has an affiliate program
tbh i dont trust ebay

I sold home improvements to homeowners for 3 years, as a licensed salesperson, for a licensed contractor.
Later I became a licensed contractor for 13 years.

We negotiated prices, bid jobs; labor and materials and in some cases when I was contracting labor only.
Normally, a consumer will get 2 or more bids on an home improvement job.
Coupons were never used. These jobs were usually $3K to maybe $60K. There are no advertised prices, no list prices; the only thing I have seen is a leader price to get a sit-down lead.

There is CPL today on the internet. For retail sales.

That could vary from a plumbing or electrical repair, to building a new garage, a room addition, a re-roof, window replacement, and as of late; a solar system install. Built-in (poured in place) swimming pools, HVAC (heating and cooling), as well as concrete, paver walks and patios. That is where most of the money is in home improvement.

Years ago we had telephone solicitors and door to door canvassers generating leads for us salesmen/in-home-closers. Just like in the movie Tin Man. I sold a lot of aluminum and vinyl siding and trim in my day :)

There is a DIY market selling building supplies to homeowners (and smaller contractors) for CPA this would mainly be chain retailers.

Coupons are nonexistent.
The only way you will make money is with lead-gen or possibly referrals to home-improvement retailers. Retailers would have sales and discounts. Contractors might have special discounts.

Don't waste your time chasing what you will not find. Coupons will only be a come-on to get leads unless you have a real coupon deal where a supplier or contractor could accept a coupon. We are talking a print on paper and not a electronic deduction from a shopping cart total. You don't order an installed home improvement on line from a shopping cart. A seller of an installed improvement needs to see the property, measure and estimate the work in order to bid the job.

As a homeowner I wanted to see samples of most materials before I bought them. Nail are nails, but all shingles (as an example) are not the same. Buy the shingles to re-roof your house and the price can be $2K to $5K depending on the size of the roof and quality. The labor to roof a building will vary with the height and pitch of the roof, the old shingle removal and haul-away --and the difficulty in completing the work. As a roofer (or roofing salesman) you have to see the job to bid it right and not lose your ass by underbidding.

  • SEO & WordPress will be very difficult.
  • Search engine ads (directive) for CPL -expensive advertising.
  • Possibly native (creative) but that will be very difficult to find the right website placements (media buying).
The approach you are considering might work for funneling referrals to sellers of home improvement materials. I did buy maybe 7% of the value of my last remodel from Amazon. Door locks, some plumbing fixtures (faucets, under-sink RO water purifier) and other miscellaneous things. Things I either knew the quality of or could see first at a building supply store.

like your idea about home improvement tools
many brands and so new models landing
bosch, dewalt, makita, milwaukee, ryobi, ridgid, black n decker, craftsman, kobalt, metabo, hilti
gonna do some keyword research
#1 question --> how many buyers search 4 coupons prior to purchase?
if theres any data above zero its worth trying
even tho amazon pays only 3% commission on tools
better than 1% at home depot

all my sites have broken the rules
they still pay commission
never had a site removed
or any type of warning
does anybody follow ALL the rules?

E-commerce never made me much money so I stopped wasting my time with it. I still have couponsworth.com,

Dropshipping some specialty items related to home improvement or contractors supplies might improve your bottom line.
  • extension cords
  • power screwdriver bits
  • drywall screws (in small buckets -- 2,000 screws)
  • airgun nails, brads, staples
These are all items that are used up fast and reordered by contractors. You may be able to locate drop-shipping sources.

Selling tools is a very small part of the money being spent. Maybe name brands like Milwaukee, Bosh or Makita. The margin may be better and the affiliate commissions are higher. Try not to make $2/an hr again.

I didn't know homedepot paid out that low.
I think you are going to do what you talk yourself into. Tools are not where the real money is.

I liked their program for years, but I moved on to more lucrative affiliate programs in the travel industry. Amazon made me a bundle back some years ago. Had a ball with them!

I am watching for your progress.
