Best practise for making changes to Adwords campaigns?

From what I've heard from others, there are some changes that if you make to a campaign, will "reset" your account with Adwords. For example:

• Editing your ads
• Editing keywords
• Changing bid type

Things like adding keywords, ad groups, creating new ads and increasing keyword bids are all fine to do.

What would be best practise then if I wanted to regroup some of my keywords into a new ad group because I wanted to setup some more specific ads specifically for them?

I assume duplicating the campaign, make all the changes and then go live with it would be the best way of doing this?

If they still fit in the theme of your campaign overall you could just create new a new adgroup within your existing campaign.
