Are Link pages dead?

Just wanted to know whether link pages are dead?
i see link pages in older not updated sites but the newer sites which i see - do not have them !

i see some sites having link pages with hundreds of links in them and the newer sites having none!

I don't think so. I'm starting one up for Retro Garden. But it's to related resources, rather than paid links, or any tom, dick or harry.

Instead of simple link pages many webmasters prefer to use more organized directories. It serves two purposes: provides extra resource for the visitors and can be used for link exchange with related sites.

I have a link page on my site but I know what you mean - people always have a list of links ont he sidebar instead.

you are talking about webmasters who OWN a directory - what about those who dont! they have to maintain a links page or some other method to link exchange!

You only have to look at a selction of 'Non directory' sites to see approx 80% have links pages so to answer your question, no links pages are not dead.

I am talking about adding directory to your EXISTING site so instead of simple link page you may have useful well organized section that may also add some value to your site...

I still have a link page on one of my sites - not a directory though I tried having one of them for a while too but I hated having to moderate it. I haven't updated that links page for ages other than check the links once in a while.

I prefer to trade links on content pages wherever possible.
