Affiliate Programm? I'm UK based

I've seen a lot of puff about these programs silly claims of huge money by Friday; Oh sorry it's Wednesday today so it's huge money by Thursday....

I've also see reports from people who were not making anything, so what's real?

Remembering that I'm in the UK can good money be made from them?

Is there any responsibly (ie not a WSO) site or document that explains it simply?

Anything you buy telling you that it'll make you money, probably won't make you any money, just figure out a method that could get you some sales, then try it, if it doesn't work, tweak it, twist it and make it work, once you've got it working, scale it up to make as much money as you can.

I think that affiliate marketing works best when you are providing information, not when you are trying to sell your own product. Think of it this way, if you owned a shop would you let your competitors come and put their offers in your shop window? However, if you are providing information to your site visitors then selling advertising space on your site can be profitable, you can offer targetted leads to your advertisers.
