Today I asked my boss if I could have a day off next week. This was his reply...:

So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for.
There are 365 days per year available for work.

Fine.

There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

Good enough. 365-104=261 (ignoring leap years for simplicity sake)

Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

First math mistake. 16 hours * 261 days = 4176 hours ---> 174 days - leaving 87 days

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available.

Second math mistake. 30 minutes each day is 0.5 hours, 0.5 hours * 261 days = 130.5 hours ---> 5.4375 days - leaving 81.5625 days of work per year

With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

Where I work, an eight hour day is required, on average. So, this is irrelevant. It is part of the 16 hours I have away from work. But, let us assume that this place is on a 7 hour workday and 35 hours a week.
1 hour * 261 days = 261 hours --> 10.875 days - leaving 70.6875 days of work

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave.

2 days * 8 hours = 16 hours --> 0.666666 days - leaving 70.0209 days of work

This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work.

Not hardly.

We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.

5 Holidays * 8 hours = 40 hours --> 1.66666 days - leaving 68.3542 days of work

We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work.

Nope. 14 days * 8 hours = 112 hours --> 4.6666 days - leaving 63.6875 days of work
Incidentally, I would like to have 14 days of vacation.

There's no way I'll let you take that day off!

Are any of you guys this good? :rolleyes: :D

He made another mistake he counted th etime you're alseep. work takes up a very high percentage of CONSCIOUS HOURS. CONSCIOUS HOURS are not the same as UNCONSCIOUS HOURS.

do all that math again but don't count 24 hours in a day count 7am - 11pm (15 hours total a day).

I am generous with my staff, I allow them to take two days a week off (Saturday and Sundays). They are also allowed to take as many days off as they life to attend funerals (Only of its their funeral, but they need to give me at least 1 year notice) :) :)

That is really cool. My profession restricts me from taking 2 off days a week. :(

But other benefits are stunning.

1. 4 return airtickts to any destination in Asia (per year)
2. 35 days Anuual vacation
3. 01 day off per week (Although it is hardly possible) :rolleyes:
4. US$600 food & beverage allowance.
5. Of course travelling expenses ;)

So no big complains. :-|

Can you count me in your staff temi ;) Good that you are generous with your staff and allow them to take two days a week off :D I am searching for this kind of job :)

Don, you need a reference from you previous employer assurring me that you work 367 days every year before I can hire you LOL

Temi - I have my own reference that i work for 365 days every hear ;) How much you willing to pay me :eek:

Unfortunately, I need evidence that you work 366 days or more a year, 365 days is just not good enough :)
Its not unreasonable to expect you to work more days than are in the normal calendar is it :)
