2nd tier affilliate question

My mum is a newbie and she is interested in joining the a affiliate programme that she's looked into a couple and to be honest, she is not expert in marketing, but however, she do alot of people who will be able to do it and is confident her lower level will sell good as they are experts.

She wants to know, provided she let them sign in as 2nd tier, is it possible that she does not require to make a sale at all and just refer as many 2nd tier peopel to get the 2nd tier commission or something even though the 2nd tier commission is small? Or does she require to make a sale in order to be able to get the 2nd tier commission?

That's an interesting question but I suppose that's better than nothing as she is making the advantage of it.

Hi gobear2000,

Welcome to 5 Star and thanks for starting off with a good question.

Hmmm... well it depends. It program has different rules. I don't recall seeing any program terms that say you can't collect 2nd tier commission unless you are also making sales yourself. But then again I don't go around reading the rules of many programs either.

Now what some merchants do is cut affiliates that don't make any sales or put up any banners after a period of time. Again every program is different.

You said: "she is interested in joining the a affiliate programme".
Did you mean to type out the name of the program?

Was it one you found here at 5 Star? If so I maybe can help. But if it's not a 5 Star program you would need to carefully read their rules and maybe even contact the affiliate manager to be sure.

Hi Linda

Thanks for the answer
Sorry, when she meant affiliate programme...it's like any of them such as ebay, amazon etc, and in regards to the program, does it make a difference to a name of the website though and yes she found the 5 star affiliate programe under another forum and it's all very great. The name has not been changed wrong, this is a really 5 star affiliate stuffs, lol

Actually my mum and I was going to do like a mini experiment to start of with to see if it is doing well and we are located in Australia. We haven't officially done yet as we have yet alot to learn. We first learnt about affilaliate programe through ebay in our local country and didn't really understand what it's all about until we had to research more and understand how it works. Took a while to understand and surprisingly, I learnt Australia websites does not offer much of affiliate programmes as much as other countries at all and even if they do, the commission is not generous and have to cough up almost 50% withholding tax.

Then changed the plan and maybe try something out of the border and see how it goes. She found a product that she reckons is good to market, but unfortunately, they are based in USA and this product is very popular and high demanding and if we were located in US, could have doen door to door knocking sales, flyers etc , but the good thing is, they still accept international affiliaters. My mum has alot of friends and my relatives are all in US\Canada so she use the advanatge and will benefit them letting them know about the product so that she can refer it while she earns the 2nd tier commission. At the same time, we are looking at other niche products where we can market very comfortably

Actually, all of these are just rough plans. I understand alot of peopel fail because they rush and did not well enough research but she and I have done a bit fair of research and planning for almost a few weeks and wil be making a outcome deicision sooner anyways and hopefully it will work things right.

We are not an expert in techincal and programming stuffs too and we are aware it would be beneficial to get a website and promote it etc. Rather than starting from the scratch starting how to learn to make a website that we went, would you think it is a good idea that I go and buy what I call a prepaid website where alot of them appears in ebay? For example....just say the niche is a casino\poker and rather than setting it own my reviews or product or put the ads on, they have it all already done for you

Would you recommend that? Or you think it's better to back off and start from the scratch of your own instead?

Sorry for the long message and thanks for reading it

Have a great day and cheers

gobear2000, you are talking about turnkey sites. Turnkey sites are content sites without much content, revenue earning sites without much of any revenue, ecommerce sites without any products, a site that is not complete and is of no benefit to visitors or sites that are produced with a common scipt or software and has no unique content.

Another view of turnkey sites is that they are fully developed sites that are ready to go but doesn't have any traffic or revenue.

These are cookie cutter sites that you usually pay for. Hundreds or even thousands of other people could have the same site. There is usually a problem in trying to change and optimize for search engines and it is often difficult to get traffic for such sites.

You are much better off having your own website. It isn't as difficult to learn how to do as you might think. But you can always hire someone to do it for you. It is really worth it to have your own site that you designed yourself or had someone else design for you.

You would also want to register your domain name and find a good hosting company to host your site.

Good points Larry.

Another way to start off small, free and easy if you don't have site building skill is by starting off with a Squidoo Homepage lens or a Hub Page.

These are good to start off with because they get traffic and fairly good search engine rankings plus don't require any design work. You just need to write content. BUT they work best if you have a good targeted niche and you still need to write good content and do keyword research and write good titles.

Do double check the rules for each to be sure they don't prohibit affiliate links. I'm almost positive they both do but have not checked lately. If the primary goal is to get friends to sign up and do the selling for you (which normally does not work very well) then doing a free site like this - at least for starters makes sense.

Then after you find something that works well on the free site - build your own site and link your Squidoo lens or hub to it.

Hi there

Thanks for the answers and tips and we will surely look at it

I am sorry, was not aware that was not allowed to post that link and I have learnt that lesson, an apology here

I am aware that some do not allow affiliate link, but however, there is an interesting question I'd like to ask. I often read the common terms and conditions about spamming emails and redirecting links etc are not allowed but it will not both us since we aren't expert at it anyways. However, what about email personal signature, would that considered as a spam? Theortically should not be so, because we are just posting it and letting them to know and they are free to click them anytime as we are NOT forcing them in anyhow such as bombing the emails everywhere or post threads everywhere along with the affiliate link, but of course I could be wrong here

We will take your word and start from the scratch and lucky we have asked first becasue we were going to purchase for like US120 as someone offered and the strange thing we've always wondered is...if they said they are earning high income, then why would they sell those webbies from $30 to 120 so cheap? And now it all makes sense.

Today, I went to dinner with my friends and most of them were IT industry and I mentioned about affiliate and I am very surprised that most of them do not know what they are and how it works! Suddenly I realise that Australian are somehow missing the golden opportunity in some way...hm...

Anyways, thanks once again for everything

I contacted you about that link by private message. But since you mentioned it here along with other things and so there is no confusion to anyone who reads it. That particular link was a gambling related link and those aren't allowed. That is why that link was deleted.

If it's gambling you are thinking of promoting then be VERY careful.
Very competitive and illegal in US.

Its a market I don't advise ANY affiliate getting into
but especially if you are a newbie. Big mistake and really dumb move!

I was just giving as an example before anyways as we don't plan to promote gambling, that's for sure and besides, I hate gamblers to be honest

I am not aware that it is illegal in US becsaue there are so many of them, lol.
In Australia are barely seen. Wonder why the Australian market is not doing well for affiliate programs, hm...

Hello,

No you do not have to make personally direct sales to earn from your 2nd tier. But then again, you MUST READ the RULES. Many 2-tier programs have limits and will definitely think you are depending on your 2nd tier. I would not want to make sales for someone (sponsor) if I were in their 2nd tier....not from MY efforts, NO! You lose because what that does is benefit the 2nd tiers since their direct referrals are building and most likely their 2nd tier. Still, would not be a good idea to let the 2tierees do the work and expect something for nothing. Best to always build your own direct personal referral base as big as possible. You will reap what you sow believe me.

Must note that these affiliate owners have control-panels (back-office) that run these affiliate programs and WILL KNOW who's putting forth and who's not!

----
I have done it. --!-- personally and presently I'am in a 2 tier program. Been there now for 3 mos and making $510 every month. This was made possible because I built my direct-referrals to a point where I earn from them and their 2nd tier. Got it?

Goodluck!
