Did you know nearly 9 out of 10 Malaysians made a purchase after seeing a product on TikTok?

This advertiser seized the opportunity and got 170% ROI in just one month. Top-selling goods and a timeless ad format like Popunder, what could be better?

With 100 million daily searches, TikTop Shop is certainly a HUGE E-commerce platform for the region. This case study shows how you can combine trends and CPM traffic mechanics for your benefit.

Our partner shared this successful case with us, and we are giving it to you. Study the strategy and use these ideas for your future campaigns!

I’ll take you through my strategy step by step.

How I chose the working bundle

This section covers my approach to offer selection and media buying. I had three goals in mind.

1️⃣ Minimize testing risks by using popular offers that generate steady revenue.
2️⃣ Scale easily with Popunder, the ad format with the highest traffic volumes.
3️⃣ Avoid overpaying for said traffic volumes when working on the CPM pricing model.

Research across affiliate and advertising networks helped me succeed in all three.

Offers

For this campaign, I intentionally focused on E-commerce. This vertical is driven by trends and is easy to scale with Popunder traffic.

Here’s what I considered:
  • The products should already be top-sellers and have wide appeal.
  • Payouts per order should be low; they work well with CPM traffic.
  • The purchasing process should be simple for impulse buying patterns.
After reviewing past performance trends and conversion rates, I picked E-commerce offers that had already performed well in my chosen GEO, Malaysia. I can’t reveal the specific offers as I’m still working with them (if you know what I mean).

My analysis showed these products generated the highest sales:

Beauty & Skincare
️‍♀️ Sports & Fitness
️ Home & Living

TikTok influencers often show these goods in their unboxings and reviews. So naturally, the interest is high and drives impressions, clicks, and conversions like no other.

This is how I lowered testing risks and confirmed real demand before launching my campaign.

Traffic

As I said, I picked Popunder as the go-to ad format. It ensures visibility, easily captures attention, and typically delivers the largest traffic volumes.

Since I wanted to work on the CPM pricing model, I needed a traffic source that prioritized quality and ensured impressions were coming from real users.

I’ve been working with Galaksion for quite some time, and with millions of impressions per day across Southeast Asia, it was definitely the fitting choice.

What makes this platform work for me?
  • Traffic is sourced directly from trusted website owners.
  • The impressions are clean.
  • Their optimization tools are superb, especially for Popunders (like Audience Targeting, Graphics Card Targeting, Custom Rates, Zones Tumblr Switch, etc.).
So I was sure Galaksion would match my goals: volumes and optimization were practically in the bag.

Galaksion’s editor note: And if you are working in less competitive regions and want to allocate your budget, try the Smart CPM pricing model. It automatically adjusts your bid based on competition and helps you pay less, never more.

Campaign settings

I set up my campaign in advance before November 1st and chose to end it exactly on November 30th. This way it would reflect dynamics over the whole month.

I wanted to reach impulse shoppers and users influenced by trends, so Mobile (both iOS and Android) was the perfect targeting option.

My manager told me TikTok Shop would actively participate in the 11.11 sale and Black Friday, and my rates in November had to be extra competitive. Especially for Malaysia, a boosting market for E-commerce.

Using Galaksion’s Traffic Volumes section on the Self-Service Platform, I input all the basic info to get precise rate recommendations.

For example, during 11.11, I primarily set my CPM rates at $1 and higher, with 5/24 frequency capping.

But of course, it wasn’t a fixed setting. My campaign covered the 11.11 warm-up, the sale itself, and its aftermath. I had to closely monitor my rates and zones to stay profitable. That’s the reality of working with CPM traffic.

How? I’ll dive more into optimization in the next section.

What I did to profit: optimization & conversion flow

Optimization

Most importantly, I did daily performance checks and blocked low-profitable zones.

Here is the strategy I followed:
  • I was blocking zone IDs with spend, but with low conversions.
  • I prioritized mobile traffic, which showed better purchase behavior.
  • To maintain ROI, I kept my bids stable instead of aggressive scaling.
Manual control is key when working with CPM. My advice is to always oversee the process and quickly analyze your zones’ effectiveness.

Conversion flow

In this case, the simpler = the better.

I needed the optimized ad placements and a fast way to record conversions. So I did not focus too much on creatives or use any pre-landers.

A potential customer had to complete only 5 simple steps, perfect for impulse purchases and a short attention span.

1️⃣ User lands on a popunder page.
2️⃣ Product landing page opens immediately.
3️⃣ User views product details.
4️⃣ User completes an order.
5️⃣ Conversion is recorded.

The direct-to-product approach helped streamline the user journey and boost orders.
If users did not convert immediately, the cookies of the click would still be recorded. This way, their conversions were counted anyway.

Payout per conversion: $0.15 per order

As I said, the small payout was a better match for CPM. I just needed high conversion volume, strict spending control, and fast optimization.

The campaign achieved consistent profitability due to stable traffic and optimized placement control.

Key results and final thoughts

This campaign shows that E-commerce Popunder traffic in Malaysia can be highly profitable, even with low payouts per conversion.

Once again, here are the details about my earnings.

⚪ Spend: $312
⚪ Revenue: $845
⚪ Profit: $533
⚪ ROI: 170%

If I had to sum up my approach, these are the three main moves I made:
  • I chose offers based on real data.
  • I bought traffic with a focus on volumes, but kept costs under control by constant monitoring.
  • I concentrated optimization efforts on placements rather than creatives.
And these are my stats on the platform.

Nice case study, thanks for sharing
What stood out to me is how simple the funnel is — direct linking, no unnecessary steps, and strong focus on optimization instead of overthinking creatives. That “volume + control” approach with CPM makes a lot of sense.
I’ve seen something similar in gaming niches too, especially with among us mod apk. Instead of complicated pages, keeping the flow simple and targeting users already interested in the trend works much better. Also, like you mentioned, focusing on zones and blocking low performers is where the real profit comes from.
Overall, clean setup + consistent optimization seems to be the real key here.
