The structure of the backlink itself shows you that it is working. It should be www. WEBSITE .com/aff=YOURNAME. just notice your name at the end and everything is alright. You do not need to click it every time to make sure it is working
this strategy is working but I think you have to purchase hosting and start to build some good content to show up in search results especially if there are already other websites that target the same keyword in their URLs.
