Black Hat search engine optimization is customarily defined as techniques that are used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner. These black hat SEO techniques usually include one or more of the following characteristics:

* breaks search engine rules and regulations
* creates a poor user experience directly because of the black hat SEO techniques utilized on the Web site
* unethically presents content in a different visual or non-visual way to search engine spiders and search engine users.

A lot of what is known as black hat SEO actually used to be legit, but some folks went a bit overboard and now these techniques are frowned upon by the general SEO community at large. These black hat SEO practices will actually provide short-term gains in terms of rankings, but if you are discovered utilizing these spammy techniques on your Web site, you run the risk of being penalized by search engines. Black hat SEO basically is a short-sighted solution to a long-term problem, which is creating a Web site that provides both a great user experience and all that goes with that.

Most often than not sites doing black hat seo get banned, so it is better to do normal seo & be on the safe side.

Black Hat SEO uses unethical way in order to get back links. It doesn't follow rules and regulations. Door-way pages, link farms, improper redirect, keyword stuffing, cloaking and hidden text are some of the methods that falls under black hat.

I have always know that blackhat meant, the wrong way to promote your site, but I didn't know that there were so many different ways to do it. I have never used any of those techniques out of fear of being banned by the se's.

Spamming itself done when someone is doing keyword stuffing or even doing doing link farming which is considered as link spamming and there are still many people who are somewhere applying black hat technique and mainly the link spamming by link farming. When it is done for the very first time then it gives very quick results until and unless it gets caught by Google webmaster. But this practice is not worth as when Google penalizes the site then it will not shown by Google.

In my own words, Black hat SEO is working against the low of actual SEO

just avoid it as it not only can but will certainly bring you major headaches at some point... also make sure you won't be penalised for black hat or grey hat tactics when using some 3rd party software or service - how to do that? well just monitor what these are doing with your website, where they are submitting, what content etc.
