Do I get the details of the buyer?

Hi there guys,

I am new to amazon affiliate program and just planning to build my astore to my website but since I am providing extra services to my customers who buy from me I have to know if I receive the details when they shop in the astore. Details I mean for example a confirmation mail that XY bought 2 books and 1 ebook for 30 USD and their details.
I would need this so I can record them for future references to give them freebies later for example or offer them other goodies. If I dont receive their information i cant reward them and this is not good for me cause of the certain of my page.
Anybody knows out there how is this going?

Thanks and good day to you all...

I am particularly interested in this topic as someone who has been online for sometime but only now am preparing to start affiliate sales (in other words as a newbie to this area).

Does not Amazon allow someway to thank buyers? I ask because I do get followup letters from people from whose product I have bought.

I may be answering my own question here because as I think about it, it does seem to me that these follow-up letters probably all come from Amazon affiliate sellers. If that is the case perhaps the best affiliate product to sell there would be an ebook, even if it were free, in order to get the lead.

What would you think?

Hi James,

No the seller-buyer connection is something else than to be the astore host.
When the buyer buy from the seller it goes through Amazon and of course they have their usual contact regarding the followed procedure about shipping and claming etc.etc. but as an astore host u have no access to these informations.
I am not sure why do u think that the emails came from affiliate sellers and not the seller. Arent they ready thank you emails only?! Do u receive them only when buying digital products? I only saw disadvantage in them so far due to the fact customers can not buy them directly in the astore.
Anyway I dont have a running astore yet just talking of other people thoughts.
I wish u were right and get the buyers details that would be awsome.
Good luck

Right. Just a difference in the use of terms and this is a new area to me (I have done nonprofit stuff for years but no selling) so I may not be using the lingo properly. In this case by affiliate sellers (not marketers) I was referring to companies affiliated with Amazon to sell their products, which you would call just sellers.

I see how it works here but I do have an idea I have seen others use. It might be helpful for some. I know one well known author who refers people to Amazon for their purchase but then tell them to return and fill out a brief form including their invoice number or something to validate their purchase (I don't think he could really validate that?). Then he would send them a free ebook or something related to the purchase. Sounds like a lot of work, perhaps, but some might be able to do something like that to get followup contact information.

Yes thats a good one, I am doing the same and offer them free ebooks which are mine to deal with if they send back their invoice to me. Validation might be a trick only for customers to get back...welcome to the commercial world James!
Good luck to u...

I see that this question concerns a couple (at least) of people so here's my strong recommendation (learned by hard experience):

Never send your prospective buyers direct to Amazon (or any other vendor)!

Always get those people on an email list (a database of prospective customers) before you move them on the the vendors page.

Why?

Because if they don't buy you have no way of getting back to them again. You've put in the effort and money to get them there and now they're lost to you. Gone.

Without a list it's the same if they do buy - you can't get back later to these buyers - the most important people you can be in contact with!

With a list you can get back to them - and you can promote related products to them time and time again.

Not having a list can be expensive (don't I know it :( ). How expensive? One of my colleagues put off building a email list for 6 months and estimates it cost him over $220,000

What would you think?

If you purchased something from a third party seller that is fufilled by the seller and not by Amazon, then that seller would have access to your email and shipping information.

For example, I will sometimes sell used books and other goods on Amazon. At that time I get an email from Amazon with the customers address and email so I can fill the order.

That said, putting them on an email list is a gray area because with the CAN-SPAM laws they really have to Opt in to your email list. And in this case they are simply purchasing an item.

I suppose, you could send a thank you to them and the opportunity to opt in BUT check Amazon's TOS on this first.

Selling eBooks from Amazon as an affiliate would not get you the lead. In that situation customers would purchase eBooks via your affiliate link - you do not get their information.

HOWEVER

You could become an author and sell eBooks you write or outsource and sell them on Amazon. In that situation you could at the back of the eBook offer a Bonus or other goodie if they sign up to your list OR you could just tell them where to sign up to your list and hope they do so.

I personally, have eBooks on Amazon and at the back of the books I share my website. I also have a Bonus they can get for joining the list.

There is no problem under CAM-SPAM in putting people on an email list before sending them to Amazon (or any vendor) as long as it is done legitimately.

All you do is set up a Capture Page to capture their details, using a fully compliant email auto responder company like Aweber and where they double optin to confirm they want to be on your list (usually because they can get something valuable, such as a discount - or an ebook, say "10 tips to save dollars at Amazon" etc) and they have an unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email they receive from you.

I've put as many as 1000 people in 72 hours on one my niche lists and somewhere during the sequence of emails send them to whatever offer or product I choose to offer them.

All perfectly CAM-SPAM compliant - and with much higher conversions.

For example the link in my sig doesn't lead to a sales page - it goes to a capture page where I offer a free video to people who want to make a heap of money online through Internet Marketing.

As I said in my post...you can't just add someone to your list - they have to opt in.
Just adding someone to your list because they purchased something from you at Amazon would not be allowed.

Let me clarify this. If someone orders an item from you at Amazon as you are the third party seller, you will have their email information. That does not mean you can add them to your email list.

On the other hand if someone goes to your website and opts in to your email that is different.

Just to note, it is CAN-SPAM not CAM-SPAM which stands for - "Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act"
