China's Yang Jian Bing dies one day after trying to make weight

A 21-year-old Chinese mixed martial artist died on Friday after suffering from severe dehydration during his attempt to cut weight the day before.

Yang Jian Bing was taken to a hospital in Pasay, Philippines, on Thursday for suspected heat stroke. His 125-pound flyweight bout against Filipino Geje Eustaquio at ONE Championship 35 was immediately canceled.

On Friday, ONE officials announced Yang had died from cardiopulmonary failure.

Wow, this is taking your sport seriously! I didn't realize dehydration was a weight loss strategy. Yes, I know it was unintentional but water doesn't have any calories. Why didn't the boy drink?

Terrible that this young man's passion is what killed him. So sad for his family.
