I have all of my sites set up with the blog on the home page. Blogs are just so versatile that it makes sense to do that. Especially Wordpress. I mean, they have templates for squeeze pages, landing pages, classifieds, etc. Even if you felt that you wanted to change up your home page, it wouldn't be a problem with most blog platforms. Also, you can easily add different types of navigation to blogs and make it easy to access other areas of your domain.
It's also a great way to get your content in fornt of people. With a blog, you can decide what you want people to see first and where. It's definitely the best bet, and judging from the amount of sites that are doing it, it's working well.
