It took me a while to start collecting emails but now I do it religiously.
A well thought out email sales funnel is so useful for so many things. Not only can you drive repeat sales through email marketing but you can dramatically improve your conversions in terms of first time sales by building up a sense of trust that is hard to do with just a one time website visit.
It's a really effective way to turn what would have been a one time visitor that would have forgotten your website a day later into a frequent visitor and customer.
