avast is good and free for the basic. Word of advice don't get an a all in one security suite, reason being if one part fails the whole suite fails. Always have one software for anti virus one for malemare etc...Avast will scan in real time and block downloads that are infected.

From my previous experiences i have a good satisfaction from Bitdefender. It's also an award winning antivirus software. Also it's very effective for internet security.
