What is the best number of pages when starting out

Hi
When I typed in my keywords the number of web pages from google is 502,000 then when I type the same keyword with "" it comes back with 1,050, for a newbie & wanting to get into this area are these numbers too small, to make it as an affiliate.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

That's what I call a 'low hanging fruit'. With that little real competition, as a newbie you shouldn't have too much work to do to get ranking well.

Allan's right! Also, be careful, sometimes google results number isn't accurate. Display 100 results per page instead of 10 and click on the very last page. You'll see the real number of results.

excellent points louise. the quote marks are very important. also check out who some of your competition is. is it dominated by one or two. though alexa isn't used by the business industry, it's still a good free gauge on the popularity of competition.

I think with quotes is the most accurate and then having a look at the top 3 sites and seeing if you can knock them out.

Without quotes means every site that has the keywords in them somewhere, but not in the order you entered them. It's kind of useless information. Try intitle: and inurl: too.
