What is Dublin Core?

I have heard this Dublin Core term recently and I'm curious what is it? What's it's purpose in SEO (if it is meant for SEO, but that's what I've heard so far)? Have anyone here tried it?

Thanks for the reply, Linda.This seems to be new in the field. I'm not sure how many uses it. But it's worth a try.

So it's true Google no longer bother with META tags and descriptions?

About the meta tags - I'm thinking no. I know they still look at the title tag obviously, but you still might want to optimize the meta tags for Bing / Yahoo purposes.
