Tube site ranking - is on page really enough?

So my tube site is a couple of weeks old and i'm adding new content daily. I'm doing all the good on page practises re keywords in titles, image alts etc. I'm not getting any organic traffic yet. I'm making gifs from the vids on my site and sharing them in relevant subreddits so i'm hussling some traffic (around 600 a day and slowly climbing) but I've had no conversions from this traffic yet. My feeling is that Reddit traffic is less likely to convert since my site has been put in front of them rather than them actively searching for it like they would if it was Google traffic.

Anyway, i'm rambling a bit. I hear link building in adult is difficult, PBNs and other blackhat methods are to be avoided like the plague etc. But when i do serp analysis on my competitors most of them have backlinks from sites that are quite obviously PBN's or link farms. Even XNXX (one of the big players!) has some dubious looking backlinks.

So is onpage enough for ranking a tube site or do I need to get some backlinks too? Is buying links (at a sensible rate) really likely to kill my site?

Are you only using Reddit as a traffic source?

PBNs and other blackhat methods are to be avoided like the plague etc.

That is absolutely correct!

Is buying links (at a sensible rate) really likely to kill my site?

I've never run a tube site or promoted adult but I've never known it to be a good idea. You want relevant sites linking back to yours because you have something they want - good content.

Maybe you could get a relevant site to review yours? Preferably one that has a good rep.

So my tube site is a couple of weeks old

Seriously, it's only been two weeks. SEO takes time. You're uploading consistently, which is good. You might want to think about posting somewhere in addition to Reddit, though.

Again, I don't promote adult but it just makes sense to me, generally.

Thanks for the reply Azgold. Reddit is my only traffic source at the minute. Tbh i'm not even sure where else i could post to drive traffic to my site. Tumblr has a no nsfw policy these days and my twitter account get suspended for spamming (granted, i did get a bit carried away, maybe a more sensible posting schedule would be better). I'm also not really sure who would review a porn tube site. As a website user i've never looked for a tube site review, I didn't realise that was a thing.

Sorry, didn't think of that re a review. I don't have an answer for you there.

I've accidentally seen adult posts on Twitter. Maybe check some out, see how they're doing it? Some have warnings (by Twitter) that they are NSFW.

Also, are there not "adult" forums where you could post a link in your signature, something like that so you can expand your site exposure?

By the way, have you looked through some of the tutorials, journeys or the adult marketing forum, see what others are doing? You may want to do a forum search specifically for adult campaigns or promotion to save time.

I'm just pulling ideas from other verticals out of my head that maybe can help.

If you're prepared to buy some traffic, there are some traffic sources for adult promotion.

I have looked at various adult journeys bit no one else seems to be doing the tube site thing.

I'm not sure what "buying traffic" means. Paying for ads on other sites?
