Since there are people that read the forum and not the blog, I wanted to be sure to repost this important info here.

I encourage all merchants affected by the New York Tax law to read the following - ESPECIALLY if you are a merchant who previously severed your relationship with New York affiliates, you really need to pay attention. Obviously too, NY affiliates reading this need to pass the info below on to merchants that have dropped you. Some of them may not happen upon the info unless you tell them to read Mel's blog below.

Melanie Seery just blogged about a solution to the New York tax problem, which includes 2 simple steps and sample documents you need to implement this. This solution was born at the Albany New York Tax affiliate meeting I blogged about here and here.

Two Steps to Comply with Tax Law
"We have been advised by our New York State Tax attorney that there is a simple two step process that merchants and affiliates need to take to be in compliance.

There are two documents to download that include steps merchants need to take and more importantly, sample agreements. The links to these documents are at end of this post."
Read the rest here and be sure to pass the link to Melanie's blog on to any merchants or affiliates who may be affected by this law. Obviously merchant's should still run this by their attorney. I don't claim to know enough about this issue to give legal advice, I only pass on info I find that could be helpful to people. But I know this group and the attorney they hired have done a lot of work and research on this. The documents they've come up with are very in-depth and using them as a template could save merchants a lot of money on legal fees I would think.

Reminder: There is also a very important session at Affiliate Summit on Sunday at 3:00 about the NY Tax issue. I believe they are also planning to have merchant packets available at the Affiliate Summit.

I'd also encourage NY affiliates to reach out to Melanie Seery and Kevin Webster at the Summit and give them your personal thanks for all their efforts in spearheading this. I believe there were a group of people involved in this initiative, but I'm sorry I don't know who all of the others are to give them credit. I'm sure this took a lot of time and resources and the work they did could help all of you. If you aren't going to Summit, you could also show your appreciation, by leaving a comment at the Two Steps to Comply with Tax Law post.
