I’m currently working on improving the online presence of a website and app development business, and I’m looking for some advice on how to approach SEM. I know that search engine marketing is key to getting more visibility and attracting potential clients, but I’m not entirely sure where to start.

What would be the best approach for SEM in the website and app development space? Should I focus on paid search campaigns, or is there a better strategy to go after the right audience?

I’d love to hear about your experiences and any suggestions on what has worked well for you in terms of SEM, whether it’s specific platforms, keywords, or anything else that’s helped drive better results.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

B2B--OK: SEM is good --but contacting interested parties in person at various events that you can attend should be a very viable method for that type of market.

great question — SEM can be incredibly effective in the dev space, but it’s also competitive and easy to burn through budget without traction if not done right.
in this niche, paid search (Google Ads) can work well if you go beyond generic keywords like “web development” or “app development,” which are expensive and broad. Focus on high-intent, localized, or niche-specific keywords — think “custom Shopify app developer NYC” or “React Native dev for fintech startups.”

also consider retargeting campaigns and competitor keyword bidding — especially if you offer something faster, cheaper, or more personalized than big agencies.
if you’re still testing what converts, run small, controlled CPC campaigns with tight targeting. That’s where we come in — I work with ActiveRevenue, a self-serve DSP that lets you run push, pop, and display traffic on CPC/CPM. It’s a great way to build awareness and capture intent affordably while you fine-tune your offer before going all in on Google.

curious — are you targeting clients locally, globally, or in specific industries? That’ll shape your SEM strategy quite a bit.
