I am using IBM Think Pad Laptop and suddenly it's behaving in a inadequate manner means it's restarting after i click on the turn off button. This problem is from 3 days and i am very confused can any one tell me why is it happening ?

Hi Amit

There could be a few causes, including hardware failure, spyware, virus etc

1) I would start with doing a full scan of your machine using Spyware removal software. A good one and a free one to use if Spybot Search and Destroy.

2) Also do a Virus Scan.

3) Also follow instructions at http://forums.ukwebmasterworld.com/...-anti-virus/7233-clearing-out-temp-files.html

4) And these http://forums.ukwebmasterworld.com/...t-temporary-internet-files-automatically.html

Please post here once you have completed the tasks above.

Ive had problems with my thinkpad before now - I turned it off and it went into hibernate instead. I didn't turn it back on for 3 months and it woke from hibernation - I was like wtf

Done all said by you gkd but no positive results from it. My laptop is still taking a restart after i shutdown it.

It seems as if its a BIOS error.

I need to know your exact model & operating system running!

try one last thing or 2 if you have the original xp disks.

Start - Run - sfc /scannow

this will check and make sure your system files are how they should be and replace any that have been changed (this doesnt affect your data), if that doesnt work

boot from an operating system disk, press R when prompted, once you have command prompt in WIN PE type

Chkdsk /r

This will take some time, other wise it could possibly be BIOS but unlikey, normally a back up and reinstall will do the trick if you can be bothered with all the messing around

I personally think its still a bios or registry problem in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive.

Try CCleaner as it has an excellent registry repair module.

Agreed thier registry could be the problem, Ccleaner is a good option

I think to format my computer and check it after doing it. What do you all say will it make any sense or not??

SpyBot Search and destroy performs a scan on the registry so if you have already done this, the registry should have been scanned.

How old is your machine? if it still has a guarantee it may be worth taking it back and getting the supplier to check the power.
