Posting affiliate links on forums?

Ok so if you go on youtube or some webpages some of the main methods some people use for getting traffic posting their links/affiliate links. Obviously, in some/most forums posting these types of links is banned. My question is this. How do those people do it then and not get banned?
Also, can I post an affiliate link in my signature?

Good question. I guess some forums (and YouTube) are just not as co0ncerned about spam as most places...

Also, can I post an affiliate link in my signature?

Yes, as long as

  • you don't include anything in your post to draw attention to it; and
  • you don't use any shortened or disguised URLs like Bitly - the rule of thumb here is that any visitor clicking on your link should be fully aware of where the link is going to take him/her; and
  • the link leads to an English language site; and
  • the link complies with our Forum Rules in terms of content.

I have been scouring different affiliate forums and noticed the same as well.

I would presume that many of us are here to network and promote our products/services in hopes of acquiring new affiliates, but I guess there are certain protocol involved in doing so without getting penalized.

Just joined this forum today- let's see how this goes...

Hi,

In answer to your question as we see it; the way to go is to provide useful help not self promotion. Very few people who simply post their affiliate links get anyone clicking on them. Why would anyone click on a link that provides zero information or very little of benefit to themselves?

The right way to get people to maybe click on one of your affiliate links is to genuinely try to answer their question and try to solve their problem and have your signature at the end of your post provide them the choice to click if they find your post helpful?

That is the way to do it. YouTube by the way is different because many people who post a video there do so to promote something and hope to get some backlinks and signups if the link is to a squeeze page or sales if an affiliate link?:)

Hope this also helps?

Hi Stephen & Jennifer,

Yes, that makes sense.

I, as well, become quite annoyed when a good percentage of replies in threads are pretty much useless and the sole objective of the post is to just spam/advocate one's site.

If one is to promote their product/service, I would presume that they have all of the answers already answered within their post, so that there are less questions that need to asked.

Lastly, I do have a signature implemented and so I'm hoping it will gain some interest from affiliates!

Thank you.
