Exploring the nuances of Brazilian gambling with PIN-UP Partners.​

Going to Brazil for SiGMA, one of our goals was to research the Brazilian market. Because not all information about the iGaming market in Brazil can be obtained by conducting demographic, sociological, marketing and other types of research necessary to enter the market and adapt the product in it.

At SIGMA Americas, we met with iGaming experts in Brazil to get exclusive comments from them about various aspects of iGaming in Brazil, as some of them:

1) How to properly calculate RevShare at PIN-UP Partners?

It's simple! Our formula is transparent:

You probably already know that the AW Europe and iGB L!VE conferences have recently occurred! At this point, Harry Potter fans come into the chat. Remember how Hermione Granger used the flywheel of time in one part of the film and rewound it backward to gain more knowledge and attend two classes simultaneously? So here we had an equally difficult task: simultaneously being in Barcelona and Amsterdam. Undoubtedly, our managers are real magicians, but the company’s corporate code strictly forbids using magic outside the walls of PIN-UP Partners’ offices. So how did we solve this problem? Preparation

Preparing for two conferences requires extensive effort. What to say, one conference is a large-scale and carefully planned process, and here all the actions must be multiplied by 2.

Despite the task’s difficulty, our event department coped with it 100%. The results of both events and excellent feedback from new and old partners evidence this. But the devil lies in the details, and we asked the heads of PIN-UP Partners about these details.

- This time, we had to send a team to two events at once. What principle was used to select those who would go to Amsterdam and those who would go to Barcelona?

- Actually, there was no unique principle of selection. Heads decided who would go where, and then the WSC corrected and finalized the lists. As far as experience shows, our managers do a great job regardless of the line-up we go to the conference

- Hi! This time our team had to attend two conferences on the exact dates. How difficult was it from the marketing department’s point of view to prepare for two events at the same time?

We were aware of the risks involved in attending two conferences simultaneously; these included the potential reduction in delegate numbers with a larger audience and the need to evaluate both conferences for the same level of inbound traffic. It was essential to position our stands correctly so that they were visible from all sides and no one could walk past. In addition, we developed a new internal incentive system for this event, but due to NDA, we have yet to disclose the details. But it worked well and helped us to achieve our goals.
Our merch was almost wholly dismantled on the first days of the conference, even though we brought much of it. This is further proof of how popular our merch is with the industry. It was awesome! It is always a pleasure to attend an event that gathered leading professionals and experts in the iGaming industry from all corners of the world. - Congratulations on your promotion! This is your first conference in your new position as Head of PIN-UP Partners. How did it go?
- There were no significant changes: I collected contacts, substituted for the guys, and communicated with the loyal partners. The only thing is that now I was responsible for the stand and the guys’ work on it. But it wasn’t too much trouble, as our team is very responsible.
According to the results, we broke the absolute record for the number of contacts this time. All the guys did an excellent job!
- What tasks do you set for yourself and your team in the foreseeable future?
- The main task for me is to increase the volume of traffic. I have no doubt that we will realize all of our plans. There are several restructurings, a lot of regulations and an increase in staff waiting for us shortly.

The only thing hotter than the temperature in the capital of Catalonia was the AW atmosphere. Thousands of visitors aimed at productive co-operation, the performance of our Head Of Sales Alex G, and as a super bonus Riddick came to the conference, which is an event worthy of special attention!

These few days have flown by. This is often the case when immersed in a process you enjoy! This was the case with AW. The conference’s atmosphere deserves special attention: it was energetic and inspiring. It’s always lovely to meet like-minded people who share a passion for the iGaming industry and strive for its development.

What impression were the guys left with? We asked our CMO, Stase Blitz, and Head Of Sales, Alex G, about the event’s results.

- You were in Barcelona. How would you rate this AW conference?

- It was boiling on the first day! Those who were at the conference will understand me. We didn’t expect so many incoming leads. AW Barcelona is a flagship project among AW conferences. We are incredibly pleased with the quality of work with the AW team. Our stand was the biggest, brightest, and most visible! It is worth noting that our stand was the entry point for networking at this conference. People said, “Wow, you have a really cool stand,” and networking began.
- What plans do you and your department have for the rest of the year?

It's time for another exciting edition of "PIN-UP Partners diaries". This time, our charming interviewer, Daria Komenda, had a chat with Alexander Starovoitov, co-owner of "Marsa Team." We're sure Alex's personality will captivate everyone. Let's go!

Daria Komenda: Hello, dear readers! Finally, I'm fulfilling the long-promised interview with our wonderful friend and fantastic partner – Alexander. How are you? What's new?

Alexander Starovoitov: Work, home, and workouts.

D: The gym?

A: The gym and the pool are my long-time passions. I've been keeping myself in shape for a long time.

D: How did you get into affiliate-marketing?

A: It was in 2015. I was developing Instagram public pages. We had a large network with a multimillion audience. The main income came from selling advertising in these pages. At some point, I noticed that affiliates were promoting certain products. It sparked my interest, but at that time, I didn't understand anything about it. There wasn't much information available, just like now. So, I started researching on my own: chats, groups, places where everyone discussed these things.

I learned about affiliate programs and that they had referral links. So, I took some links, uploaded certain offers – the classic approach. But I still had zero experience, and then one of the owners of a public page happened to be selling courses. A guide on working with partnerships costs 6,000 rubles. I even managed to negotiate with him and got it for 5,000.

That's how I started my journey through public pages, Instagram, and sales. From there, I learned about affiliate marketing, spam, and so on – that was my first experience.

D: What was the most challenging part in the beginning? What problems did you face?

A: Everything was standard: what are proxies? How does everything work? What are these complex terms? There was no foundation. I gathered information bit by bit and assembled it into comprehensive knowledge: anti-detects, proxies, I gained experience, which I then transformed, developed, and passed on further down the chain.

D: When did you start feeling comfortable, like a fish in water?

A: That was a long time ago... but by 2019, I was already an established, so to speak, seasoned professional. The period from 2015 to 2017 was all about realizing my career path. At that time, I had parallel online and offline businesses.

As for how I got into advertising – my business needed advertising, and there were few good specialists in the market. I honed my skills and delved into targeting. Through my mini-projects, I learned about crafting appealing content to engage the audience. The knowledge I gained was then applied to affiliate-marketing. I already knew how to engage and convert the audience.

D: That's an impressive experience. I must admit, I don't think there was as much information available back then as there is now.

A: There was absolutely nothing at that time. Now, there is so much information that you can just take it and get started. The question is, do you want to?

D: ...and are you willing to invest the time.

A: Exactly, there's a lot of information. Why some people succeed while others don't – it's because some know how to process information, and others don't. But there's plenty of information available. Taking courses now probably isn't necessary.

D: You used to work with physical products, but now you're in iGaming. Why this vertical, and why did you change it in the first place?

A: Well, I personally enjoy placing sports bets. I noticed that there was a market where some bookmakers were being promoted. I realized that players spend a lot of time analyzing matches and waiting for specific events. All of this interested me, and I also understood what partnerships, referral links, promo codes, etc., were. It was easy to test betting, so I gave it a try.

In the beginning, it was RevShare. It was back in 2017, but we still maintain this working model. I gradually evolved: shifting from one traffic source to another, trying different combinations and approaches. That's how we eventually arrived at the current state.

D: Did you have any pivotal moments? Moments when you wanted to leave affiliate-marketing and start an offline business, for example? Or did you ever think about disappearing into the woods like a hermit?

A: There were moments like that. Every person sooner or later analyzes what they would like to do. At the beginning of my journey, I didn't consider it as my main activity. Offline clients, calls, and sales were running parallel to my tests. It was a hobby for me, where I practiced my skill of attracting clients directly from paid advertising.

Then I started asking myself specific questions, particularly about what I wanted to do and in which field I wanted to grow. Affiliate-marketing interested me. At some point, I decided to focus on this direction because I found joy in it.

D: I admire people dedicated to their work. But let's go back to your past life. You had other businesses. If affiliate-marketing didn't suit you, what would you have pursued instead?

A: Considering my current knowledge, I would have only considered online fields – maybe IT and related products, like mobile applications. Perhaps, I will eventually come to that. But for now, I don't want to spread myself too thin, nor do I want to rush ahead, as it could be risky.

I concentrate on what brings results. You can run after anything, but there's no guarantee it will take off. By the way, I didn't realize this earlier, but with experience comes an understanding of what needs to be done.

D: Now you're a co-owner of Marsa Team. Could you tell us how the team was formed?

A: Yes, it all started with my own journey. I achieved certain results, but I needed to move forward.

I attended an event in Minsk around 2020. There, I met Victor, a partner and a long-time acquaintance. I saw that he had great skills, so I proposed that we develop together: rent an office and embark on a more serious path. Victor supported the idea, we joined forces, and the team was formed.

D: By the way, Victor is here too, just off-camera, sending greetings. Tell me, did you have any adjustments to make or did you immediately get along well?

A: There were no major adjustments needed; we were comfortable working together from the start, and there were no disagreements. If either of us is wrong, we always discuss it and come to a mutual decision. We understood what we were striving for, shared common values and views, which made us even stronger as a team.

D: It's great when people find like-minded partners, especially when they are co-owners. What's more important for you in an employee: soft or hard skills?

A: Hard skills. In our industry, basic hard skills are necessary: being a proficient PC and internet user, understanding how things work. Yes, some skills can be learned during the training process. But I believe that an employee should have a certain mindset – a "techno-informational-mathematical" mindset. They should be able to analyze their work and actions. Unfortunately, not everyone possesses this.

D: What skills should an owner have to build their dream team?
A: An owner should be decisive, willing to take risks, and not afraid, at least when it comes to creating a team.

D: What would be a trigger for you to part ways with someone on your team? Did you face any challenges in the early stages of building the team? Or are there any current issues?

A: I cannot tolerate betrayal and theft. I instill the idea of family within the team. If misunderstandings occur, I always welcome open conversations with direct questions: what doesn't satisfy you, what do you want to improve? I am open to my team and value each individual.

I also make mistakes at times, and I encourage feedback, which allows me to reconsider my opinions. The most important thing is – no leaks of budget or breaches of trust.

D: Do you organize team-building, training, and corporate events?

A: Even though we can only gather some of the guys, we do it whenever possible — entertainment for New Year, specific dates, just a desire to drive a buggy.

D: Are most of the team international?

A: Yes, different CIS countries.

D: What kind of traffic does your team work with?

A: Mostly Google and FB. We try other directions too, but the focus is on the primary Google sources

D: Why these? FB, for example, storms 24/7.

A: Any source is stormy: everywhere you look for new approaches and struggle. Google and FB are global sources, presented in big amount of countries.

D: When you went into gambling, which affiliate did you immediately look at?

A: We try to work with direct advertisers. If we take a partner, it is crucial to have a systematic approach, fast support, and quick payouts. It is also important to strive for "win-win" conditions so that the affiliate is satisfied with the traffic and we are happy with the requirements. We also work with resale when there are no direct offers. The main thing is fast support, so the offer stays fresh for three days while they bring it to you.

D: Have long responses and unsatisfactory rates burned you?

A: The market has tightened up, but I have many stories. We would need one more interview to list them all.

D: Why do you work with PIN-UP Partners? What attracted you to the program?

D: You're a father of two and a wonderful husband. You broadcast it all very well on social media. How do you balance work and personal life?

A: My family is very important to me, so I try to devote time to it. I only sometimes get full-time, but I have weekends. I also give time to my wife and children after work. These people are always with me in any situation. I love, appreciate, and respect them very much.

D: "PIN-UP Partners!" Apart from the pool and sports, how else do you relax? What are your hobbies? What is your ideal day off?

A: I love activities: wake surfing, snowboarding. I love going out with my family, even on short trips: the countryside, a small house in the woods. I like gaining energy from nature and returning with new strength on Monday. When you get tired of everything, you can watch a TV series.

D: Are you more in favor of your family or your career?

A: Probably more for work. An average man is more in favor of his career. A woman, on the other hand, is more for her family and family heart.

D: Dasha has left the chat

A: It's clear that everything is individual, but in my worldview, it is. I have time to myself.

D: Do you have aspects of your life you'd like to change? Or is everything going the way it's supposed to go?

A: Right now, everything is fine. I have a straightforward daily routine: get up, train, have breakfast, go to work. After training, I am energized, full of energy to work.

D: I don't understand how you go to the gym in the morning! Everyone I ask says they go in the morning.

A: There is a moment my whole life has always been like that. I was a professional swimmer, and the first training session started at 6:30. I would get up at 5:30 to put something in my mouth and go for some kilometers.

On top of that, I have four years of "barracks position," where I also get up at 6:30. Sometimes, I get up without an alarm clock.

D: That explains a lot. I used to train the other way around in the evening.

A: I stick to what energizes me. I catch that state, analyze it, and never escape it again. Everyone has to find what they get high from. I get high from constant movement. I can't lie down.

Rarely, once in two years, I can sleep during the day when I am exhausted, but burnout is not peculiar to me probably because I love what I do.

D: Have you thought about moving somewhere else? Thailand or Dubai?

A: Sometimes. When I go somewhere, I ask myself, am I ready to live here? Thailand, Bali - I relax in warm places and it makes it hard to concentrate on work. I'll move there when I find a city where I can see myself and my life.

D: Can you give any advice to both beginners and pros?

A: Never stop. Once you've chosen a path, follow it, whether hard or easy. Everything will work. The question is, how much do you want to? Our sphere is full of tests.

The Story Behind the World-Famous Aviator

What you are about to read is an interview from a co-branded party hosted by PIN-UP Partners and SPRIBE that took place in Sao Paulo, during SiGMA Americas. While PIN-UP Partners may be a familiar brand to some of you, SPRIBE may not be. To put it simply: SPRIBE created the Aviator, which in term gave birth to a whole genre of Crash Games.

Interview with Gvantsa, Marketing Communication Manager​

Aleksandr: So, here I am with Gvantsa, one of the marketing executives of Spribe. Now we will talk a little more about the product (Aviator), its history, and its future. So, Gvantsa, how did one of the most influential products, some would even say revolutionary, come to be?

Gvantsa: Thank you for having me, first of all. We are glad to be your partners. Shortly about Spribe and its products, we are celebrating our 5th year on the market. And Aviator was one of our first games, launched in 2018. And it just skyrocketed right away.

At the beginning, it was kind of funny to convince someone that this was really a game. So it took a bit of time and effort to show and prove that this game really worked. So, in order to make it work, we just created a new vertical for the casinos, which is called “crash games”. And now, you know, it’s really popular. If you search it on Google in Brazil, it ranks in the top-10.

Among the first companies to partner with us was a Georgian casino. This was the time when we discovered that Aviator was the game that brought new users to all the games — it served as an anchor. Then we went to an ICE conference without a booth or big stand — we were walking around with an iPad, showing the game and telling the others it was an amazing game: easy, simple for new generations and kind of addictive (as you might know).


What makes it different from other games is that the user has a sense of control, and there is no luck element involved — the users just adore it. They know that the only one who is in charge is the gamer himself. That’s the secret sauce of the game.
A: So, how long did it take to code, to build, to test the game?

G: Actually, it was a long process — approximately a year. Our developers were working on it, and there were some bugs at the beginning — you know how this goes. We wanted to create the best design: eye-catching enough but not too complicated.

A: Is it true that the team consisted of three people? Like three guys working on a game for a year.

G: Yeah

A: They did believe in the dream…

G: Believing in the dream is the main motivation for any successful company. Sharing the same vision and believing that it’s going to work is the key. So we followed it.

A: When was the moment when you felt like — jackpot!

G: After the first event…

A: …you went to an ICE, holding an iPad…

G: …yeah, with an iPad we managed to get three new clients, it was hard though. But eventually it just took off. When you get the biggest clients, when you convince them, the others just follow naturally: “oh, wow, you’re with… them” — I am not sure, I may name the trailblazing companies.

Anyway, it just went naturally, and we were doing well with our PR campaign. The main idea was to educate our customers on what the crash game was, what it stood for, how easy it was to play.

For us, it really worked. As you know, there are a lot of competitors now., but we are in the prime — being the original game and the starting point.


A: How do you feel about having so many competitors-copycats? Basically, you invented a genre and vertical, and then there are hundreds of products right now. And some of the clones are really big.

G: We’re proud about it. If you have competitors or followers, it means you are very successful. That’s how it is, there are tons of games, which look alike to our own game and use the same mechanics. Yet, we feel proud, because we have invented something new, and they all want to belong to Aviator. They all want to have something similar. Besides just success, you feel kind of powerful.

At the end of the day, everybody just wants to play Aviator.
A: So, you’ve had this game for quite a while now…

G: …yeah, four years…

A: …what’s next for Aviator now? Any upgrades, modifications, perhaps Aviator 2?

G: There won’t be any Aviator 2, but some surprises are coming. It’s gonna have some additions to make it more engaging for the gamers — but I’m gonna keep it a secret. We are going to have a big launch for it — just wait a bit.

A: Is it correct to assume that Spribe has new upcoming games, new upcoming products for us: players, casinos, affiliates — everyone on the market, right?

G: We have a new game launching, pretty soon. It’s named Balloons, which works on the same mechanics, but it’s a single player. Our developers work on slot games, and we’re improving our poker — that’s pretty much of it. But we will think about something new for our partners and operators, sure.

A: What are your plans for the LATAM market? After all, we’re in Brazil, attending SiGMA…

G: Hm, that’s actually a pretty good question — why marketing, why here? As everybody knows, Brazil, especially in LATAM, is one of the biggest markets. Even though we are a B2B company, we plan our marketing campaigns, especially for Aviator, to make it more popular among the end users. I know this is not something we should be doing. But because we value our partners, we want to increase the game’s popularity for them, to increase the brand awareness, to establish that premium brand image that we have in Europe, as well in Brazil.

A: I hope this helps the affiliates, who run the offers…

G: I think that will be one of the main aims — to increase traffic volume for them. There is interest for the game from the gamers, which makes the affiliates happy too, I guess.

After all, the more people want to play it — the greater demand, which is to be satisfied. I hope our efforts help the affiliates, don’t they?

Vitalii: Hello-hello, thanks for inviting

A: The party is rocking — it’s fire! Which is why we are here — it’s much quieter off the dance floor. Now tell me, what was the idea behind building a grand stand for one of the biggest Latin America conferences, focused on iGaming?

V: Well first of all, I’d highlight that this is the biggest event in Latin America (SiGMA Americas). This part of the world is selected because the market is huge, the Brazilian market is booming, and it’s very good that SiGMA managed to organize this event now. Regarding our strategy, as a game #1 in this country, we wanted to show our presence, highlight our achievements and our success — that’s why we went with a stand.

At the moment, we are developing our brand, making new visuals, changing its look. Now we have a brand-new plane, depicted on the stand. I hope it will become iconic soon, because it’s recognizable and beautiful. We just wanted to come and show ourselves, meet new people, and connect with them. Because when you meet people face-to-face, it’s a whole different level of communication, and we wanted to build the relationships with our partners in this part of the world.


A: How does this event, the whole event marketing campaign helps SPRIBE and Aviator to attract more players, more partners, basically everyone to make more money?

V: I think it helps in two ways. First of all, since our business model is B2B, it helps to connect with our partners, to show our brand, and to show how would we do it at the moment, and reconnect with them. Speaking about players, we’re talking on the channel, which is dedicated to affiliate marketing.

And guys, you’re the watchers, those who drive traffic to our game — the more traffic you drive, the better our game converts.
So we’d like to address this audience, our partners, and connect with them personally, as well as get closer to the affiliates, who help our brand to grow.

A: Throwing such a grand party in São Paulo, what was it like, what was achieved?

V: Basically, everything I’ve said so far — increasing the presence of our brand, showing how we care for the partners we work with, expressing our gratitude for the companies who help us to bring in new affiliates, and… exposing our soul.

Our company has a very special vibe, which is not easy to feel when you communicate with SPRIBE via emails. And having this amazing stand, photo zone, big plane, and huge party — it’s how we want to share our inner world with the people around us. How we want to share our vibe, how we want to spread our love to all who work with us.


A: Last, but not least, where and what to expect from you next?

V: Honestly, we are on world tour this year, so we have 10 shows around the globe. I just got back from Singapore two weeks ago, and now we’re in São Paulo. In three weeks we will go to Amsterdam, from which we’re off to Manila, the Philippines. In September, we are going to Barcelona. And, of course, the highlight among all the SiGMAs — Malta in November.

To make the stay in this zone even more atmospheric, we invited a DJ. Mini party right outside the walls of the conference! Sounds cool, doesn’t it?

SiGMA is one of the largest conferences in terms of organization and also in terms of complexity. Cyprus is an island, so it took a lot of work to implement our standard and non-standard requests, especially regarding logistics. Still, we did a great job.

I want to mention our smoking area. This time, it was something very fundamental. It was in the same demand as our stand. Incredible excitement at Immersive Party, 100% attendance, and dozens of messages in direct mail with requests to get to the event. And, of course, an exclusive set of merch, which we expanded significantly for SiGMA. We gave away several hundred units. Next time, we will bring more!

In general, we raised the degree of activity at SIGMA Limassol. Special thanks to Denis and Olga, the conference organizers, for their prompt support!

The conference was very productive for our team. We had dozens of great meetings with our existing partners. We shared ideas on how to make our projects even better. Chile is home to nearly 19.64 million people, with the majority, 84.6%, being urban dwellers. This accounts for the impressive 90.2% internet penetration in the country. Spanish is the official language, and even though more than 3 million tourists flock to Chile annually, the people in the capital, Santiago, don’t rush to learn even a few phrases in English. Chile is one of the most developed countries in South America with a high standard of living. The local currency is the Chilean peso; the average salary in Chile is the highest on the continent – about $1,145 per month.

There are around 25 million mobile phones in the country (and that’s almost 25 million of your potential players). More women play mobile games than men – 51% to 49% respectively. iGaming in Chile

Up until 1990, the only form of gambling allowed in Chile was betting on horse racing. This was mainly in the form of pari-mutuel betting on the track, which can still be done on all five tracks, as well as on dog racing. A lot of Chilean sports bettors were into it and it’s still a big hit today, but any other kind of sports betting, like on soccer, was happening illegal.

The first legal sports betting in Chile only started to get legit in 2008, when lottery operator Polla Chilena requested permission to offer fixed odds betting. Online casinos are illegal, although new legislation is expected to allow unlimited licenses.

What is the new legislation?
