Pay per call success

I'd be really interested to know what has been the experience of affiliates running pay per call offers?

If anyone has run offers in the UK that would be even more interesting?

Much appreciated.

Thanks,

Joseph

I've never used Pay Per Call as an affiliate but as an OPM I have managed a site that did use the PPC at CJ. I found that just a couple of affiliates did moderately well, but that most of the traffic (calls) were people trying to take advantage of the system.

I think there is good money out there for an affiliate with the right niche and audience, but from the merchant side the PPC can be a lot more work than it is worth.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. That's very interesting to know, especially with your OPM experience. I'm familiar with the CJ ppcall offers but have not run many campaigns, partly because their US offers seem better built out than their UK ones.

I think you're right in that pay per call can very work for some genuine affiliates but that it attracts those looking to game the system.

We run life insurance offers and are largely working with affiliates we know personally and we have had to ban affiliates unfortunately who just tried to game the system which hurts everyone.

Thanks again Ron.

If anyone else has any feedback I'd love to know. Or if you know of any other networks that specialise in pay per call?

I did consider pay per call campaigns once ... but my gut tells me it's not easy getting people to click to call directly off their mobile phones.

Furthermore, a lot depends on the marketer/publisher and how he/she crafts the ad. Mismanaged targeting will result in the advertiser having to pay for low quality calls.

What I can suggest, if you're really considering it, is to craft specific marketing materials for your affiliates to use so that you have a little more control over the type of audience who calls.

I have a couple PPC affiliate sites. At first they did not do well until I added one sentence next to the phone no on the site.

Click the phone number on your smartphone to connect. Turned it all around instantly. It is funny how simple the solutions are sometimes.

Of course, some content it works better on, but overall, that helped a lot., took a loser and made it a winner with that simple sentence. But you have to have a mobile ready site

I've never personally had any engagement with Pay-Per-Call. Perhaps I'll look in to it if someone can explain the perks.

I've been seeing a lot more of these offers and traffic to these offers popping up the last month or so. While not a new trend, definitely a growing one.

Pay per call is definatley a growing trend with a lot of users in the mobile area. Some tips to making pay per call work is finding a good network with long term running offers. Some offers on the pay per call side take quite a bit of time and research on the keywords starting broad and narrowing down. Last thing you want to happen is finally figure out what keywords convert into a call and then have the offer shut down right as you are about to scale up and have lost money doing the research. Biggest thing with PPC is thinking like the consumer. What types of search do they do on there mobile phone. Find verticals/ niches you are good with and try it out. There are some very good paying offers out there.

As an affiliate manager I think PPC is better than most social marketing. This is a growing area as more and more people use their phones to connect with the internet and less and less use their desktops or laptops.

Also I have noticed that when you search on your phone you are more likely to click on what you find than if you are just researching on your desktops.
