Niche

Tech in general is super competitive. Plus margins are low so commissions are as well. (Sometimes 1 or 2 %)
Not to talk you out of it just sizing up that market in general.

Maybe if you found a niche within that niche?

Check out the stickies here in the niche forum too for how to eval a niche.

Tech would be way to broad. Narrow it down to one segment of tech. Maybe use the Adwords Keyword tool and put in a few terms and scroll through it and see what interests you. Even a segment 1/20th the size of Tech would still have plenty of material to write about.

+1 for the other responses above.

"Tech" is broad - almost too broad, putting a site in competition with giants like Wired.

"Tech" covers so much, from hardware to software, mobile to desktop, apps, accessories, web, programming, research, trends, social media, and much more.

Somewhere among all those possibilities is an area you can really sink your teeth into and provide uniquely valuable content for.

Find the niche within tech that most excites you - success depends on sticking with it, so if you focus your energies on the areas of greatest personal interest you'll be more likely to create a compelling site for others who share that interest.

Sometimes its better to find the affiliates you think you would like to work with first, test them and then build out your niche networks. Even if you identify a niche you would like to work on within technology it will not be that effective if there are no good affiliate opportunities.

I agree with Joozed. If you're looking for a way that the online work can make you real money, & reasonably quickly, I would work backwards by finding the affiliate companies that you'd like to work with...
If you are simply really passionate about technology & want to do your best within that broader niche & only hope to make a tiny bit on the side to subsidize what you're pouring into it, then write about what you're passionate about. If you do this very well (better than your competition), you'll eventually make money at it because people will take note & return and recommend your site.
