Need advice/ guidance on affiliate assumptions

Hi all, cool forum - exactly what i need!

i have a UK site and i want to start to earn affiliate income from it.

Before i start i want to understand what i should expect/ plan for - especially...
  1. what percentage of my user base should i assume will be eligible to earn affiliate income? what are the industry benchmarks at present?
  2. what is an average affiliate income rate to assume per user who takes up the offer?

My site has users who are likely to take up switching products (like those offered by uswitch the comparison site)

In my head it goes something like
100,000 users
of which 1% will take up the affiliate offer each year
at average affiliate rate of ?10 per user
equals ?10,000 per year

so - i want to test these assumptions before i buy the ferrari/ go broke :)

I'm happy to share more info if you need it.

Hope you can help a newbie?!

Yes, it's 1% indeed not to mention that the ratio depends also on the niche. They're not created equal. Your affiliate rate is pretty low to me but it depends on what programs you're affiliated with of course. If you need a simple and friendly affiliate marketing step-by-step guide, grab one free on my blog. It can help.

Congrats on having your website! :)
