Marketing: Google AdWords a good way to go?

I have an affiliate website that I would like to get off the ground. Do you think Google AdWords
is a good cost-effective way to generate targeted customers? Any other traffic generating
suggestions?

Adwords can be a very good way to go.

Cost effective? Depends on the market, how good you are at picking keywords and designing ads and whether you are sending clicks direct to merchant or to a landing page on your site. If on your site it also depends on how good your landing page is.

If you have the money to spend and study how to do PPC right, using Adwords can be the fastest way to test a market or fastest way to start making money. But it's not a panacea. You still have to know how to market and still need to pick offers or affiliate programs that convert.

It is also one of the fastest ways to loose money. It is something you need to spend a good deal of time researching. It is very easy to spend a ton of money on adwords and not realize any return.
