What to do when you know for a fact a campaign link is not tracking leads or sales in a network? :(

Hi Linda,

That is the first thing I do; but in most cases they ask you how do you know it’s not tracking? They think just because the impressions or click is tracking all is good; however leads and sales are not tracking, and they brush you off or they try to imply you are trying to cheat. Some networks are advertiser friendly and some networks are publisher friendly. I work with both types. Instead of the affiliate manager thinking; well let me have our technical department check and test if leads/sales are tracking on this publisher/affiliate account. They ask how you know it’s not tracking. When they ask this question I could think they know it’s not tracking – and the advertiser stealing my traffic and not compensating the publisher for there traffic. I’ve have friends and family sign-up or purchase from an advertiser and the sale or leads did not track and it almost takes an act of God to have the sale/lead credited to your account and for the network to admit the advertiser link is not tracking sales/leads in there system. I think this is a major problem with this industry; it’s like the wild west everybody is suspicious.

Yes, I'm sure it's very frustrating.

There are a variety of technical reasons some sales don't track, cookie problems, cookie deletion by the user, pixels misfiring, etc. No tracking is perfect. Then again there are dishonest networks and merchants too unfortunately.

What type of networks do you work with? If it's CPA networks then yes they can have a financial incentive to skim leads. I don't know that many do, but some may.

However if you work with regular affiliate networks like CJ, Shareasale, Linkshare and Google affiliate network - it's just the opposite. They get paid based on how much the merchant pays affiliates, so if they were to shave leads or sales, it would hurt them financially, not help them.

There are lots of reputable merchants and networks out there. It sounds like you've worked with some that are not trustworthy.
