Search engine optimization. On page optimization for your chosen keywords or keyword phrases
Off page optimization ie generating one way backlinks to your site from relevant sites

Social bookmarking

Funny all the above methods are free but they do work

My favorite is SEO. Takes time and effort but wow all that traffic free from the search engines makes it worthwhile
