Google’s new G1 phone announced today is the first real competitor to the iPhone. Like Apple’s product, it’s a serious handheld computer with a powerful new operating system (called Android) and a clever touch-based user interface. Like the iPhone, it’s likely to be a major new platform for third-party software. But it’s also very different, and may appeal to different buyers.

The phone, expected to be the first of many to use the Android operating system, was largely designed by Google, and was built by HTC of Taiwan. It will be sold in the U.S. starting next month by T-Mobile, for $179 with a two-year contract.

It was the great effort of the Google to release their phone. This phone provides one-touch access to Gmail and syncs e-mail easily from most other mail services. Photos and graphics are displayed along with the text.This phone also offers easy access to instant messaging services, including Google Talk, AOL, Windows Live Messager and Yahoo! Messenger. From their contacts application, users can see which friends are online at their computers or other mobile devices. Searching the informations through this phone is faster compared to other mobile phones. It has a built-in compass, which displays a 360-degree Google Street view based on location. Also it support for YouTube videos. It will compete Apple's 3G iphone. When did it came to India. I am eagerly waiting for that phone.

I heard about this mobile. This mobile allows easy access to Google’s range of online applications, such as Gmail, its personal e-mail service, and YouTube. It also allows you to see Google Maps in “street view”, so you can explore cities virtually, as if standing on the street corner itself. This cannot compete with Apple’s sleek design. It looks and feels plastic and clunky by comparison.
