As many of you know Imran (GKD UK) has been unanimously selected by our members as UKWW Webmaster Of the Year 2007.
We conducted brief interview to congratulate him with this achivement and learn little bit more about his background.
UKWW: Imran, what country are you from?
Imran: UK
UKWW: What is your profession?
Imran: IT Support - Technical Engineer and part time webmaster
UKWW: When did you first started on the web and what made you do that.
Imran: I first started on the web in January 2007.
I started off with an IT Support Forum to provide users with free I.T Support.
I have learned some Dreamweaver skills whilst at University so I was on a head start.
I soon became very interested in the online world and setup a few more sites until I reached 6.
It's great working on line especially when you have support from members like the ones on UKWW Forums.
UKWW: Which is your main website and why you decided to concentrate on that niche
Imran: My main website was my I.T Support Forum and I decided to concentrate on this niche because my full time role involves I.T Support. As I became more involved in the online world I setup a few web directories and a gaming site. I try to put an effort in all my sites but would say my main site which I am quite proud of is my Web Directory
UKWW: What would be your advise to other webmasters who has or wants to start new site in this niche?
Imran:Starting an I.T Support, Webmaster Forum or any other forum is quite straight forward.
The difficult part and I mean difficult is promoting the forum, getting visitors to become members, keeping the forum active and spam free. This can take time but is possible if an effort is made.
UKWW: When and how did you find UKWW and what made you to join
Imran: I first came across UKWW through the search engine Google.
I had already setup a web directory before joining UKWW so visited the forum for some advice on promotion and improving the design. When I look back now, I would class my self at that time to be a spammer but the owner of UKWW Temi and other members have been patient and supportive, instead of banning me or giving infractions.
They gave me objective opinions and professional advice. It was great and would like to thank all for their continued support.
Every day I would learn something new and when I required advice I would get it quickly.
UKWW is one of my favorite forums and one I spend a lot of time here.
I gain knowledge from others and then pass this knowledge on to new webmasters.
UKWW: What was your top achievement in the 2007 and what do you expect from 2008
Imran:My top achievement would be gaining the award for UKWW Webmaster of The Year 2007 and would like to thank the UKWW community for nominating me. I was very pleased when I was announced as Webmaster of the year at UKWW.
Other achievements would be achieving number 1 in search engines for most of my sites. This was hard work but a great result.
UKWW:Whatever else you would like to add...
Imran: A message to new webmasters, never give up is my advice.
If you can find the right people you can do well. A site to start off on for advice, promotion, programming or any other website support would be UKWW.
You will receive lots of support from professional webmasters, programmers and SEO professionals.
Never start your first post at any forum with promoting your products or services.
You risk to earn reputation of a spammer and to be banned or ignored by other members.
Start off with posting an introduction about yourself and take part in discussions.
UKWW:Thanks Imran for your time and we wish you a lot of success with your online ventures in the new year.
