A lot of people use them to remain anonymous online, to access sites they otherwise can't because they are behind a firewall or to keep their spam networks on the move.

Others, like myself, test our websites as if we were from another country to make sure they behave as they should. You can test your DNS servers, your language translation, your content delivery network and a lot of other useful things through a proxy.

I hadn't ever thought of doing that in order to see what my website looks like in another country. That's pretty brilliant.

I would also guess that using proxies would allow for misuse of statistics and adsense clicks.

and that would be a good guess. Google bans publishers who show signs of having a lot of fake visitors and simply watching known proxies in the ad serving would tell them if your percentage of fake referrals is far too high.

Don't buy "traffic boosting" offers on fiver as these often work with proxies.

I knew there had to be a catch. Saw a lot of those and figured there was something automated involved. You get what you pay for, right?

My campus use to block half the sites on the net. It was quite annoying. These proxies are quite useful but you always need to be updated as they expire quite often.
