i promote free web hosting and i also develop mini sites (from templates) and host them for £5 per page (parking just don't cut it for me)

Giving away free hosting is just a way of letting people try my service without a commitment.
The hope is in time if satisfied, i may earn from upgrades to larger space /bandwidth and other add on services. (domains, SSL certs, Software etc)

However the free offer is not time limited or ad supported, and there is no obligation to go paid if the free plan suits your present hosting needs.
