Can anyone distinguish between activities for lead generation and increasing traffic?

I've been struggling a bit to understand, what kind of activities are done in SEO when you want to get leads and what kind of activities are done to increase traffic?

I'm already doing off-page activities, and author wanting to do guest posts wants money.

I completely understand your confusion it's a common question.
When it comes to lead generation through SEO, activities like optimizing landing pages, targeting long-tail keywords, and creating highly focused content are key. For increasing general traffic, you also need a solid technical SEO foundation, on-page optimization, and yes, off-page like guest posting and backlink building. If you'd like, I can walk you through a tailored strategy

I think people often overcomplicate this.

Traffic and leads are not the same thing. You can get 100,000 visitors from informational keywords and generate almost no sales.

For example, ranking for "what is SEO" may bring lots of traffic, but ranking for "SEO agency pricing" or "hire SEO consultant" will usually bring more leads with far less traffic.

I'd focus less on guest posts and more on search intent. Ask yourself: are the keywords you're targeting used by people looking for information or by people ready to buy?

A page with 500 visitors and strong commercial intent can be worth more than a blog post getting 50,000 visits.

Traffic is easy to measure. Revenue is what matters.

SEO for leads - and SEO for traffic are often the same activities, the difference is mainly in keyword targeting. For leads, focus on high-intent keywords and conversion optimization. For traffic, target broader informational keywords and publish more content. As for guest posts, it's pretty common these days for site owners to charge for placements, so you need to be selective and focus on sites that can actually move rankings or send relevant traffic...
