What is a mashup and why should affiliates care? Techy affiliates are really going to want to check out the links in this blog. I know of course about the Commission Junction API and a couple others, but I admit I didn't really understand mashups (also known as web application hybrids) or know how many there are. Take a look at all these Shopping Mashups and let your mind go with all the possibilities. Pretty Powerful Stuff! Affiliates with a little programming savvy could create shopping portals that go way beyond the typical affiliate datafeed site by using mashups or creating their own.

What is a Mashup? "A mashup is a website or web application that seamlessly combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience. Content used in mashups is typically sourced from a third party via a public interface or API. Other methods of sourcing content for mashups include Web feeds (e.g. RSS or Atom) and JavaScript. Many people are experimenting with mashups using eBay, Amazon, Google, Windows Live, and Yahoos APIs."

Terry over at the SuperAff blog has the full scoop on mashups. Affiliates: Heads Up on Mashups ? Terry writes: "Playing around with APIs and building mashups is becoming quite a popular online sport for webmasters and techies. Mixing products easily and seamlessly from places like eBay, Amazon, Yahoo! and Commission Junction merchants all together in one site?that?s mighty powerful stuff."

Terry writes a very informative piece. (I love her blog) Go read the rest. Terry includes lots of links to help you learn more and Jeff Molander weighs in with his 2 cents on the subject too. You can almost imagine what he says...
