"general interest" is what a news audience is. Assuming the news is not topical. Like; products,sports,movies ...etc.
Find general interest offers for each geo and geo-ip the "offers" in an array.

You can maybe put an affiliate offer related to your audience inside your posts ,you can also build an email list by putting an optin page on your pages to capture emails .The big money are where its the list ,you then speak with your audience ,bring them value and from time to time you send them a promotional email
