Affiliate marketing is a process. There is a learning curve to it. And as you mentioned, you are relatively new...so if you try to rush into it, you might get burnt in the process.

Depends on your marketing technique. Although building an email list, can be profitable on the long term, I still succeed on my campaigns without building emails.
There is never nothing wrong with building an email list, in fact I highly recommend it. But you can still profit without building...
I would highly advise that you get a job, till you are 100% confident that you can make a profit.
I was in similar situation, but in my case it was voluntary. The reason I actually quit, was because I was sure I could come out profitable with my campaigns. And I do make more than enough money...
You are right in that sense, in that I'm the affiliate sending traffic to the offer. What I meant was CPS (cost per sale) offers, instead of CPA, which require things like free trials or simple form submit.

I will be going into CPA sooner or later. The reason I decided to stick with affiliate marketing was because I wanted to adhere to one method, till I mastered it.
