Hey, I just joined, and this is crazy, but here I am, so reply to me maybe!
:P
Anyway, I'm a webmaster, designer, and gamer. I own EnigmaBoard, a technology forum, MineBoard, a Minecraft forum, and Blockscape Forums, an unofficial forum for the game Blockscape.
Nice to meet you all.
I try to be careful about which link directories I submit to, Google doesn't take kindly to link directories.
I also try to promote on link directories real people actually visit, like the ones forums have.
I use promotion forums, social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Google+, and link directories.
I also promote my forums in my signatures on forums that allow it.
I love designing themes for my forums. I've made several themes for Vanilla, a couple themes for IP.Board, and matching themes for WordPress. I've also made a couple for MyBB as well.
Has anybody else used Vanilla? It's a really awesome simple forum script and I really like the layout, and how it shows you new content on the index page.
I've got one forum on Vanilla so far and I think I'll be using it for the next forum I start as well.
MyBB is good software, but it has its problems. One of them is sometimes new posts won't show up when you search for them, you have to go through each and every section to find them. I used it for years however.
I don't recommend using it because its forum support staff are immature and...
SMF is garbage to me, it's right up there with phpBB. It's out of date, underfeatured, and its features are crappy. I'd rather go with Vanilla or MyBB.
I am an ethical webmaster as well. I never trick my members into going somewhere or by shocking them with something.
I also never pirate web software, unlike some other webmasters I know.
The TLD shouldn't rank the site higher. It's just a matter of preference. Most people go for the .com site though.
Domains do affect SEO though, or at least sometimes. For example, if I were to search for Minecraft, minecraft.net would rank higher than dosfsdfhj.com even if they're both about...
I have three sites on one hosting account and I've used 5 GB this month out of my limit of 45 GB. I'm really happy with my host although sometimes I hit the CPU limit.
