Yes, I've had a look at some of the major CMS' out there, but to be honest, my site is so small I just feel that using a CMS to sort out some minor issues would be like using a nuclear bomb to catch a minnow - a very time-consuming nucleat bomb at that!
Thanks for suggestion anyhoo.
I'm trying to use PHP to allow the users of my website bungo.co.uk to choose a stylesheet, and as I don't know what I'm doing, I used an example script mezzoblue.com/zengarden/faq/switcher-php.txt]script from mezzoblue.com. The script to handle the stylesheets is working fine, and I've been...
Hmmm, I contacted the lil <nasty word in here>'s ISP and they seem to have stopped him. Not sure exactly what they've done (apparently the Data Protection Act 1998 prevents them telling me), but for the first time in weeks, he's not reloaded the index page thousands of times today.
Thanks for...
I'm assuming I'll need to modify that script in order for it to work first? I don't know PHP, so I'm a bit stuck there. I included exactly what you posted and then connected through several different proxy servers myself, all with the result "You are probably not using a proxy server"...
I was thinking about that, but has he actually done anything wrong?
As far as I can see, all he's doing is opening a webpage through different proxy servers. Is that illegal? It's certainly bloody annoying, but I'm not too sure of the legal side of things.
I put his IP through an IP Lookup...
Yes, there's at least 75 different proxies he's using, and banning their IP's one by one will take ages, and then he's always going to be one step ahead of me, I can't ban it until he uses it.
He's also targetting any downloads on my site to eat up my bandwidth, so I've had to disable...
Is there any way to block people using Proxy Servers from accessing your site? Some silly child was constantly refreshing my hit counter (in excess of 3000 hits per day) so I banned his IP. Now it is continuing to go up, and logs show that it is online proxy servers that are generating all these...
I have used Serendipity blog in the past, and was very impressed. Uses PHP and MySQL, was very easy to set up. I've not used any other blogging software so I don't know how it compares. More details at http://www.s9y.org/.

My Toolbox:
Dreamweaver MX2004
Paint Shop Pro 8
Notepad <-- awesome!
That's it. I started off using only Paint Shop Pro 6 and Notepad, and a few months ago decided to get Dreamweaver and a newer version of Paint Shop.

I'd consider myself a designer, rather than a developer.
I am quite an arty type of person, and while I'm fairly confident with html and css, that's about as far as my coding skills go. I don't know why, but I just see 'web developers' as people with a lot more knowledge than me - people who...
Been online since early 2004, and it is purely a hobby site. I was considering using one of those affiliate schemes where you display ads and get paid per click, but was never convinced it would be worth it.
I average about 7000 hits a month, with about 2500 uniques. I very rarely (in fact...
I think I found the problem, but thanks a lot for the fast replies.
The include files all had the <html>, <head> and <body> tags, so I think the browsers were just getting confused.
I'm using XP Home, so I'll try out the local server thingy and let you know how it goes.
Ta muchly,
Bungo
The includes are just standard html files, there's nothing fancy about them - just the usual CSS and JavaScript.
I've made a few changes, but I'm in the process of changing web-hosts at the moment so I can't upload anything for an hour or two.
Is there a way to test PHP files locally, with...
Does this PHP file look ok to everyone?
It just displays a blank page when I test it, and I can't see what's wrong with it.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

Ok, the script is working now ... for some reason Internet Explorer will display the menu correctly if I save the pages as PHP files.
I don't understand why, but it's fixed it.
Thanks anyway!
