Correct @Victorvictories. It can depend on your demographic profile (ABC1), whether you're working full or part time, have pets, children.....many factors. It also takes some time to build up your "reputation" so the survey sites will give you better surveys.
I hear ya. Best to focus narrowly and master the niche/traffic source first. Tracker is a big investment but I guess it's a necessary one to understand what's working and what's not.

As an absolute beginner would you recommend starting with CPC (Google/Bing) or buying ad space?
And are there any networks that will accept complete beginners? (Though in good faith!)

What kind of designs you creating?
Maybe you can try finding a designer for low cost on Fiverr and work with them til you get the design close to how you want it?
