I know a lot of Wordpress sites and eCommerce shopping carts structure the urls with hyphens. However, i don't think it makes much difference to your search engine rankings.
Yup I don't think that it makes much of a difference. You just need to ensure that its not going to be something really crazy like abc.com/seo/dk/hypehn-837/jsu/tank/damn.html
