Okay, so I have one site up and it's doing ok. I'm ready to get some ads up. Can you tell me how I go about this.
I've signed up with pepperjam and CJ. Do I apply to the programs they have and get approval from them? I'm a bit concerned with the site as it's been declined by google and ebay due to content (not porn). I'm building other sites with a more family oriented feel, but don't want to be penalized in the future for this one.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi:
I am working with CJ as an affiliate publisher and Yes you do have to apply to merchants and await approval. I have been with them as well as others for about 4 years. I got turned down by some of the more well known merchants. Then after starting to generate sales among the ones that I did get, I re-applied and was accepted. These things take time but once you get up and rolling and the $$$ starts coming in it makes it all worth while.
I wonder what content you have that would make Google Kink your site? I also have an Ebay store but it's not linked to my affiliate sites just my personal site.

Good luck on the new site and I hope it is OK with Google.

I recently started with CJ also.. I only have relationship with godaddy so far. I have sign up with other companies..

so here's what I got from CJ, who I've been dealing with on other sites.

You simply apply through your account for affiliations and once an affiliation is accepted you are then able to pull the tracking links/banners for the particular advertiser.

But, I doubt you will find many or even any advertisers in our network that will be interested in being promoted on your website. It is not the particuar politics of that site that would be the problem, but instead simply that it is so political. Few advertisers are interested in being associated with anything that is politically partisan. Advertisers are generally very neutral since they wish to appeal to the widest range of customers.

So, I suggest you delete that site listing and focus on promotional activities involving content that is less or ideally not political in nature.

What am I? Two-years-old? I understand the point, but there's a less condescending and judgmental way to put it. No?

I don't see the comments as condescending - just direct. They're warning you that the content of that particular site is going to deter many or most potential advertisers. I see it as constructive advice (1) not to get your hopes up for a steady stream of advertisers and (2) to consider other ways of monetizing that site or building other sites that would be more attractive to advertisers.

I'm with minstrel on this. I think you were lucky to get the open feedback. Many networks you would not get a reply at all or it would be a canned general reply like "your site is not a good fit".

Actually, CJ has made some improvements in their support system and I'm happy to see they actually sent you a personal response versus a canned one. However, regardless of how the message was received, they do have a good point. You may want to consider changing the main site listing and put up one that is more acceptiable to a broad range of merchants. However, if you do this only to put up the links on the orginal site, that is usually frowned on as the site should be representative of where you plan to promote the merchant.

Onlinemallrat has a good suggestion in his/her post regarding reapplying to the merchant. Sometimes if you contact them, let them know how you plan to promote them and on what page(s) you plan to promote them, they might accept you. If there was a merchant I really wanted, I worked and worked to get accepted. But only if I thought I would make sales there, otherwise it is just a waist of time.

Don't get frustrated by these first rejections. See what changes you can make and try other networks and merchants.

thanks all for your comments. It's hard not to take it personally after the work put in. But I'll pull up my big boy pants and get over it [:)
