What is Absolute Link?

An absolute link is also known as absolute url. It is a full internet address that brings one to the exact file or website. From the definition itself you can understand that if url of your is not correct than how it will going to work.

An absolute link defines a specific location of the Web file or document including: the protocol to use to get the document, the server to get it from, the directory it is located in, and the name of the document itself. Below is an example of an absolute link:

<a href="http://www.domain.com/pagename.html"></a>
For relative link you need to write

<a href="pagename.html"></a>

As far as SEO is concerned,it doesn't matter whether you use absolute link or relative links.Because the search engines automatically convert relative links into an absolute links.

The only time where it is helpful to use absolute links is if you have more than one domain parked at the same website. This is because you wouldn't want the search engines to index your website under both URLs, which they might do if they get to the additional domain and it has relative links on it. If it has absolute links, they'll always click back to the "real" site.

First time hear about absolute links but forum member has give good information about it. Common point from there post is absolute links have absolute url and really that is very much important in linkbuilding....

Absolute linking is a way to connect pages of same domain. Either it be in content or in navigation, we can add links to other pages of same domain in two ways. One is called absolute linking and other is relative linking. In absolute linking full url is needed and in relative linking a relative url to root is needed.
