Vyatta Inc, the company that builds open-source networking solutions that provide an alternative to over-priced products announced the availability of the fourth release of their Open Source Linux distribution, Vyatta 4.0.
Vyatta Linux combines firewall, VPN and router capabilities into a single solution that tries to deliver twice the performance of proprietary network solutions at half the price.
New feature are presented on their release page, like Improved Scalability ( Vyatta 4.0 is now able to scale from DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) to 10 Gigabit Ethernet environments), 10x Price/Performance Advantage (New routing technology for improved performance), Enhanced Features for Large Network Environments (QoS, remote access VPN, role-based access control, and the new Fusion management interface are newly introduced) and Support for Smaller Networks ( Support for PPPoE, dynamic interface IP addresses and WLAN load balancing) .
